CAFM 2nd Annual Conference – 2015

Our 2nd annual conference was held on Wednesday, October 21 at the Water’s Edge Resort and Spa in Westbrook, CT.  The final attendance number at the conference was 97, which met our expectations that were set last year!  If you are a CFM, please note that attending our conference makes you eligible for 5.5 CECs!  Certificates will be mailed to CFM’s.  If you do not receive a certificate and you need one for your records, please email us at contactcafm (at) gmail.com.

Lots of folks from diverse backgrounds in and around Connecticut continue to be interested in floodplain management, as evidenced by the breakdown in attendees below:

  • Representatives from Connecticut Jurisdictions:  28
  • Consultants:  28
  • State Government Employees:  19
  • Non-Profit Representatives:  3
  • Federal Government Employees:  5
  • University Professionals:  9
  • Retirees / Unaffiliated:  3
  • Representatives from Industry:  1
  • Insurance Industry:  1

A total of 32 attendees were kind enough to fill out our evaluation form, and based on those responses our overall conference rating was 90%!  Based on the responses received, the conference was very well received.  We attempted to delineate between riverine/general talks and coastal-specific talks in our concurrent sessions per evaluations received following the 2014 conference.  Mr. David Vallee’s (NOAA) opening address was particularly well received (88% strongly liked it) with other strong likes being Ms. Diane Ifkovic’s (CT DEEP) NFIP update, the Community Rating System panel, the keynote presentation by Ms. Rozelle Henn (USACE) regarding the North Atlantic Coast Study, and the Post-Sandy recovery update.  We also received numerous comments on what the strong points of the conference were, where we can improve next year, and the subjects that attendees are interested in hearing about over the next year.  If you are a member who would like to serve on the Events committee and help plan events over the next year (including our third annual conference), please email us at contactcafm (at) gmail.com.
